The road to becoming a police officer is demanding. Between the written exams, fitness training, and preparing for interviews, it’s easy to lose sight of the people cheering you on. As we approach Thanksgiving, this is your reminder that family isn’t just part of your support system—they’re the reason you’re doing this.

Gratitude as a Foundation for Service
Every strong officer I’ve worked with carried one thing into the field: gratitude. It’s what reminds you why you serve, keeps you humble, and helps you stay grounded when the job tests you. Take time this week to pause, breathe, and reflect on who’s in your corner. Call that relative you haven’t talked to in a while. Sit at the table with your family and really listen. Gratitude builds resilience—the same kind of resilience that policing requires.
Balancing Ambition with Appreciation
Yes, preparation matters. But balance matters more. Your loved ones are proud of you even when you’re tired, even when you’re nervous about the next phase. Sharing that journey with them makes the process lighter and the badge more meaningful when you earn it.
A Thanksgiving Challenge
This week, write down three people who’ve supported your dream and send each a message of thanks. You’ll be surprised how much that gratitude recharges you.
From my family to yours—be thankful, stay connected, and remember: the badge you’re chasing is stronger when your foundation is built on family and appreciation.
As Thanksgiving approaches, remember—your family’s support is your greatest strength. Take time to be thankful and grounded as you work toward your badge.
